Paying $20,000 off My Mortgage

House Renovations, Holidays, Furniture, and Electrical Products have all helped drive my Mortgage up instead of down over the last year or so...
At the start of June 2005, I set myself some business and personal financial goals...
Like most people I have got a garage full (well a house full probably) of stuff that never gets used and eventually either gets thrown in the bin or given away. So I decided to see if I could sell some of the stuff on EBAY. It seemed to work OK, so I set myself a goal of paying $20,000 off my mortgage with selling items on EBAY.
First off I did an inventory of all the things that we no longer needed and I put them all in the garage and took photos of them with my digital camera. Then I started listing them on EBAY...

So far the Progress at:

1 August 2005 is: $970 paid off

24 October 2005: $1,874 paid off

16 March 2006: $2678 paid off

23 October 2006: $4403 paid off

There are several advantages here: 1) I am reducing my mortgage 2) I am learning the ins and outs of how eBay works, so I can move toward doing business on this format later, and 3) I am regaining mountains of space in my house.
For anyone interested in selling or buying stuff on Ebay it is an interesting, well maybe a little addictive, thing. Not only can you make some significant money by selling things, you can also save heaps on second hand and new products. I have bought a few things and generally you save about 30-40% off the regular retail price.
